大分県・日田市で林業を営む『マルマタ林業』と日田の林業や山林の利活用や次世代木こりの育成を考えるプロジェクト。日田は、材木市場が８つもある日本有数の林業の町として知られる。一方で、山の維持管理の難しさ、次世代の担い手不足、木材の低廉化という課題を抱える。日田の林業の未来ビジョンを描く構想を立案中である。第一フェイズは、森林の創造的活用と産業観光の要素を融合し、山での遊び・学びの場のネットワークを構築する。
A project based in the mountains of Hita City, Oita Prefecture. Working alongside ‘Marumata Forestry’ to develop a long-term plan for the utilization of the city’s forests and consider the future sustainability of the industry. Hita is well known as a centre of the forestry industry in Japan, yet it still faces a number of issues such as the complexity of mountain maintenance, a lack of skilled labour and the low price of timber. The first phase of our revitalization plan incorporates the creative use of forests with elements of industrial tourism in order to build a network of places to play in, and learn from, the mountains.
